Dim Mak

What is Dim Mak?

Dim Mak (点脉), often translated as the “Touch of Death”, is a controversial concept in Chinese martial arts. It refers to striking vital points on the body (meridians, nerves, pressure points) to disable an opponent.

Historically linked to Chinese medicine and martial folklore, Dim Mak is often associated with myths, but in practice relates to pressure-point fighting techniques found in some Kung Fu and Tai Chi traditions.

Why Train Dim Mak?

  • Vital Point Knowledge – understanding of anatomy and pressure points.
  • Self-Defense Applications – controlling opponents with minimal force.
  • Integration with Chinese Arts – often studied with Tai Chi, Bagua, or Shaolin.
  • Unique Identity – mysterious and culturally fascinating.
  • Wellness Link – overlaps with acupuncture and qi theory.

How Does Dim Mak Compare?

  • Vs Kyusho Jitsu (Japanese pressure point art) – similar concept, different origin.
  • Vs Karate – Karate has atemi-waza (vital strikes), Dim Mak is more systematic.
  • Vs Modern Medicine – not scientifically validated, more traditional knowledge.
