Krav Maga

What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga (קרב מגע), meaning “contact combat”, is a modern self-defense system developed in Israel in the 1940s by Imi Lichtenfeld. Originally designed for the military, it was later adapted for civilian use.

Unlike traditional martial arts, Krav Maga is not based on sport or ritual. Instead, it emphasizes realistic, efficient techniques to survive dangerous situations, including defenses against weapons and multiple attackers.

Today, Krav Maga is practiced worldwide as a practical system for self-defense, fitness, and personal safety, especially in urban environments.

Why Train Krav Maga?

  • Practical Self-Defense – real-life scenarios, not sport.
  • Quick to Learn – simple, efficient techniques.
  • Confidence & Awareness – mental training as well as physical.
  • Popular for Women’s Safety – adapted programs for personal protection.
  • Fitness & Conditioning – high-intensity workouts.

How Does Krav Maga Compare?

  • Vs Aikido – Krav Maga is aggressive and pragmatic; Aikido is philosophical and non-competitive.
  • Vs Karate/Taekwondo – less formality, no kata, faster to apply in real life.
  • Vs MMA – Krav Maga focuses on street safety, MMA on sport competition.

Krav Maga in Europe

Since the 1990s, Krav Maga has spread across Europe, with major organizations active in nearly every country. It is especially popular in cities, fitness clubs, and among law enforcement and security professionals.
